For the third consecutive year, the Czech railway sleeper market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption, however, saw a perceptible descent. In 2020, overseas shipments of railway or tramway sleepers (cross-ties) of wood increased by X% to X cubic meters, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of X cubic meters. from 2009 to 2020, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, railway sleeper exports rose modestly to $X in 2020. Overall, total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. from 2009 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Norway (X cubic meters) was the main destination for railway sleeper exports from the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, railway sleeper exports to Norway exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovakia (X cubic meters), more than tenfold.

Over the period under review, imports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% against the previous year.
