Potato Market Size in the Czech Republic

The revenue of the potato market in the Czech Republic amounted to $X in 2018, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, potato consumption continues to indicate a moderate shrinkage. In 2018, the amount of potatoes exported from the Czech Republic stood at X tonnes, falling by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, potato exports decreased by -X% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

In value terms, potato exports stood at $X in 2018. Overall, potato exports, however, continue to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. In that year, potato exports attained their peak of $X. From 2012 to 2018, the growth of potato exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Slovakia (X tonnes) was the main destination for potato exports from the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, potato exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Austria (X tonnes), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Germany (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume to Slovakia amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for potato exports from the Czech Republic, comprising X% of total potato exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Austria ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovakia amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the average potato export price amounted to $X per tonne, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the potato export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable deduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. In that year, the average export prices for potatoes attained their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2012 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average export prices for potatoes failed to regain its momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the highest prices were recorded for prices to the Netherlands ($X per tonne) and Slovakia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per tonne) and Poland ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Potato Imports

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2018, the imports of potatoes into the Czech Republic stood at X tonnes, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, potato imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, potato imports reached their maximum at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, potato imports totaled $X in 2018. Overall, potato imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, imports failed to regain their momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Germany (X tonnes) constituted the largest potato supplier to the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, potato imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tonnes), sixfold. Austria (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+X% per year) and Austria (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average potato import price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the potato import price, however, continues to indicate a drastic drop. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per tonne), while the price for Slovakia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
