Pig Iron Market Size in the Czech Republic

The Czech pig iron market shrank sharply to $X in 2020, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption faced a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, pig iron production declined modestly to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. Overall, production, however, showed a precipitous shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2009 to 2020, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic

Pig iron exports from the Czech Republic expanded remarkably to X tonnes in 2020, growing by X% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, pig iron exports rose significantly to $X in 2020. In general, exports recorded temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tonnes) was the main destination for pig iron exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, pig iron exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovakia (X tonnes), threefold. Italy (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+X% per year) and Italy (+X% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for pig iron exports from the Czech Republic, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Slovakia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Poland stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+X% per year) and Hungary (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average pig iron export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were Hungary ($X per tonne) and Poland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per tonne) and Italy ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Pig Iron Imports

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of pig iron and spiegeleisen were imported into the Czech Republic; which is down by -X% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, pig iron imports shrank markedly to $X in 2020. Overall, imports showed a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Russia (X tonnes) constituted the largest pig iron supplier to the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, pig iron imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Germany (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia totaled -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+X% per year) and Germany (-X% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were Slovakia ($X per tonne) and Poland ($X per tonne), while the price for Germany ($X per tonne) and Norway ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
