Newsprint Market Size in the Czech Republic

For the sixth consecutive year, the Czech newsprint market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, consumption faced a abrupt downturn. In value terms, newsprint exports reduced to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Hungary (X tonnes) was the main destination for newsprint exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, newsprint exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tonnes), threefold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hungary was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+X% per year) and Denmark (+X% per year).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, newsprint export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. In 2020, supplies from abroad of newsprint decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, newsprint imports dropped notably to $X in 2020. Overall, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. from 2009 to 2020, the growth imports failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, Austria (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of newsprint to the Czech Republic, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, newsprint imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by France (X tonnes), with a X% share.
