Mercury Market Size in the Czech Republic
In 2021, the Czech mercury market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, saw resilient growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Exports from the Czech Republic
In 2021, overseas shipments of mercuries were finally on the rise to reach X kg for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, mercury exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Switzerland (X kg) was the main destination for mercury exports from the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, mercury exports to Switzerland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X kg), threefold. Germany (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Switzerland totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for mercury exports from the Czech Republic, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Hungary ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by Switzerland, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+X% per year) and Switzerland (-X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average mercury export price amounted to $X per tonne, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by X%. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2020, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mercury Imports
Imports into the Czech Republic
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of mercuries decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, mercury imports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Slovakia (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of mercury to the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, mercury imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X kg), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the United States (X kg), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovakia amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and the United States (+X% per year).
In value terms, the largest mercury suppliers to the Czech Republic were Slovakia ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, which accounted for a further X the main suppliers, the United States, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average mercury import price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, mercury import price increased by +X% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of X%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per tonne, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for the United States ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
