Maize Market Size in the Czech Republic

In 2020, the Czech maize market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, consumption, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Maize consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2020, exports of maize (green) from the Czech Republic declined rapidly to X tonnes, falling by -X% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2017 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, maize exports soared to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. from 2017 to 2020, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Slovakia (X tonnes) was the main destination for maize exports from the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, maize exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tonnes), more than tenfold. Germany (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovakia stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for maize exports from the Czech Republic, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovakia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and the Netherlands (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average maize export price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2020, supplies from abroad of maize (green) decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after twelve years of growth. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, maize imports shrank to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. from 2019 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Spain (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and Italy (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of maize imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising X% of total imports. Poland, Portugal, the Netherlands and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest maize suppliers to the Czech Republic, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Spain recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the average maize import price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per tonne), while the price for Poland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
