In value terms, iron ore and concentrate exports declined notably to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports faced a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. from 2016 to 2020, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Austria (X tonnes) was the main destination for iron ore and concentrate exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, iron ore and concentrate exports to Austria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tonnes), eightfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Austria was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (-X% per year) and Belgium (+X% per year).

In value terms, Austria ($X), Belgium ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for iron ore and concentrate exported from the Czech Republic worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Belgium (+X% per year) saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, the average iron ore and concentrate export price amounted to $X per tonne, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, iron ore and concentrate export price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. As a result, export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2020, supplies from abroad of iron ores and concentrates was finally on the rise to reach X tonnes after four years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2009 to 2020, the growth imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, iron ore and concentrate imports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. In general, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2017 indices. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2020, Ukraine (X tonnes) constituted the largest iron ore and concentrate supplier to the Czech Republic, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, iron ore and concentrate imports from Ukraine exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tonnes), threefold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Ukraine stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+X% per year) and Canada (+X% per year).
