Densified Wood Market Size in the Czech Republic

For the third year in a row, the Czech densified wood market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Densified wood consumption peaked at $X in 2007; afterwards, it flattened through to 2020.

In 2020, shipments abroad of densified wood decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, densified wood exports fell to $X in 2020. In general, exports recorded a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tonnes) was the main destination for densified wood exports from the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, densified wood exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tonnes), more than tenfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+X% per year) and Slovakia (-X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for densified wood exports from the Czech Republic, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Slovakia ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (-X% per year) and the Netherlands (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average densified wood export price amounted to $X per tonne, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a moderate increase from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, densified wood export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure in 2020 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2020, imports of densified wood into the Czech Republic skyrocketed to X tonnes, jumping by X% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, densified wood imports surged to $X in 2020. In general, imports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of X% year-to-year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per tonne), while the price for Latvia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
