Rice Market Size in Cuba

Macedonia (X kg) was the main destination for rice exports from Cuba, with a approx. X% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, rice imports reached their maximum at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, rice imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2018. Overall, rice imports saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. In that year, rice imports attained their peak of $X. From 2009 to 2018, the growth of rice imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Viet Nam (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of rice to Cuba, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, rice imports from Viet Nam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tonnes), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Argentina (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Viet Nam amounted to -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-X% per year) and Argentina (-X% per year).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, rice import price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, the average import prices for rice attained their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average import prices for rice remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Viet Nam ($X per tonne), while the price for Argentina ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Viet Nam, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
