Pineapple Market Size in Cuba

The Cuban pineapple market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a abrupt downturn. Pineapple Exports

Exports from Cuba

In 2021, shipments abroad of pineapples decreased by -4.2% to X tons, falling for the fifth consecutive year after five years of growth. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 362%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pineapple exports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 389% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Spain (X tons), France (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of pineapple exports from Cuba, with a combined 87% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Slovenia, which together accounted for a further 10%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Germany (with a CAGR of +342.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of pineapples decreased by 0% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous setback. The smallest decline of -43.2% was in 2018. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Canada (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pineapple to Cuba, accounting for a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, pineapple imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Angola (X tons), eightfold.
