In 2021, Austria (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of newsprint to Croatia, accounting for a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, newsprint imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovenia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Austria totaled -7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (+2.8% per year) and Germany (-15.5% per year).
In value terms, Austria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of newsprint to Croatia, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovenia ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Austria totaled -9.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (+0.7% per year) and Germany (-16.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average newsprint import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 8.5%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
