Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 263% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Russia (X kg) was the main destination for hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes exports from Croatia, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X kg), twofold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia amounted to +34.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+31.3% per year) and Canada (0.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes exported from Croatia were Russia ($X), the United States ($X) and Canada ($X), together accounting for 98% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Russia, with a CAGR of +35.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average export price for hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes amounted to $X per kg, growing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 155%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per kg in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+52.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Croatia
In 2021, purchases abroad of hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes decreased by -52.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 557%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 234%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
South Korea (X kg), Ireland (X kg) and Italy (X kg) were the main suppliers of hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes imports to Croatia, together comprising 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Sweden, Spain, Taiwan (Chinese) and the United States, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +189.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes suppliers to Croatia were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 84% of total imports. These countries were followed by Sweden, Spain, the United States, Taiwan (Chinese) and Ireland, which together accounted for a further 12%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Sweden, with a CAGR of +200.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes stood at $X per kg in 2021, picking up by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 90%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per kg), while the price for Ireland ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
