Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 290% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 263% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Russia (X kg) was the main destination for hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes exports from Croatia, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X kg), twofold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia amounted to +34.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+31.3% per year) and Canada (0.0% per year).

Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 234%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

South Korea (X kg), Ireland (X kg) and Italy (X kg) were the main suppliers of hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes imports to Croatia, together comprising 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Sweden, Spain, Taiwan (Chinese) and the United States, which together accounted for a further 25%.

Over the period under review, the import price saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 90%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per kg), while the price for Ireland ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
