Exports from Croatia

In 2022, overseas shipments of carrots and turnips decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, carrot and turnip exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Slovenia (X tons) was the main destination for carrot and turnip exports from Croatia, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, carrot and turnip exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Poland (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Slovenia stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (X% per year) and Poland (X% per year).

In 2022, the average carrot and turnip export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of X%. Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, carrot and turnip imports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. Austria (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of carrot and turnip imports to Croatia, with a combined X% share of total imports. Serbia, Germany, Slovenia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
