Copper Exports

Exports from Colombia

In 2022, the amount of copper exported from Colombia surged to X kg, with an increase of 111% against the previous year. In general, exports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 611% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, copper exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 588% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Imports into Colombia

In 2022, approx. X tons of copper were imported into Colombia; which is down by -3% on the year before. In general, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 285% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 99% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, France (X tons) constituted the largest copper supplier to Colombia, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, copper imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X kg), with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France totaled +27.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+26.4% per year) and China (-1.9% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of copper to Colombia, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 4.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from France totaled +34.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+25.3% per year) and Spain (+6.8% per year).

In 2022, the average copper import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 124%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
