Potato Market Size in Colombia

The revenue of the potato market in Colombia amounted to $X in 2018, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, potato exports attained their peak of $X. Exports by Country

Venezuela (X tonnes) was the main destination for potato exports from Colombia, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, potato exports to Venezuela exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Japan (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Venezuela was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+X% per year) and Japan (+X% per year).

In value terms, Venezuela ($X), Japan ($X) and Ecuador ($X) were the largest markets for potato exported from Colombia worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Japan (+X% per year) experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to exports, among the main countries of destination over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the average potato export price amounted to $X per tonne, standing approx. at the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Ecuador ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Panama, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Potato Imports

Imports into Colombia

Potato imports into Colombia amounted to X tonnes in 2018, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, potato imports continue to indicate an abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, potato imports stood at $X in 2018. Overall, potato imports continue to indicate a drastic setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, potato imports reached their peak figure at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, France (X tonnes) constituted the largest potato supplier to Colombia, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, potato imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tonnes), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the U.S. (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France amounted to -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-X% per year) and the U.S. (-X% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of potato to Colombia, comprising X% of total potato imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the U.S. ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Costa Rica, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of value from France amounted to -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the U.S. (-X% per year) and Costa Rica (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the average potato import price amounted to $X per tonne, surging by X% against the previous year. In general, the potato import price continues to indicate remarkable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average import prices for potatoes reached their peak figure in 2018 and is expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per tonne), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
