Malt Market Size in Colombia

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Colombian malt market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, malt exports fell slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (-X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Malt Imports

Imports into Colombia

In 2021, purchases abroad of malt decreased by -X% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, malt imports dropped slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2017 indices. In 2021, Germany (X tons) was the main supplier of malt to Colombia, accounting for a X% share of total imports.
