Ethylene Market Size in Colombia

The Colombian ethylene market soared to $X in 2021, surging by 17% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 191% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, ethylene imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 160% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest ethylene supplier to Colombia, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, ethylene imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tons), threefold.
