Exports in CIS

In 2023, the amount of woven fabrics of cotton exported in the CIS skyrocketed to X square meters, surging by X% against 2022 figures. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cotton fabric exports surged to $X in 2023. In general, exports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2023 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan was the main exporter of woven fabrics of cotton in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X square meters, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Russia (X square meters) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Belarus (X%) and Azerbaijan (X%). Kazakhstan (X square meters) and Tajikistan (X square meters) took a minor share of total exports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the woven fabrics of cotton exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Azerbaijan (X%) and Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Russia (X%), Tajikistan (X%) and Kazakhstan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (X p.p.) and Azerbaijan (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Russia saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. In 2023, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per square meter, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per square meter), while Kazakhstan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, supplies from abroad of woven fabrics of cotton was finally on the rise to reach X square meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2020 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia represented the main importing country with an import of about X square meters, which amounted to X% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X square meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X square meters) and Kyrgyzstan (X square meters). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. Armenia (X square meters), Uzbekistan (X square meters) and Moldova (X square meters) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to cotton fabric imports into Russia stood at X%.
