Exports in CIS

In 2022, approx. X square meters of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings were exported in the CIS; waning by -2.9% against 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X square meters in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, tufted carpet exports shrank to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +14.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Belarus (X square meters) was the key exporter of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings, committing 50% of total exports. Uzbekistan (X square meters) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 33% share, followed by Russia (13%). Armenia (X square meters) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Armenia (with a CAGR of +98.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest tufted carpet supplier in the CIS, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belarus stood at +2.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+8.2% per year) and Uzbekistan (+19.1% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per square meter, shrinking by -3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 1.4%. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per square meter), while Uzbekistan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

Tufted carpet imports declined modestly to X square meters in 2022, with a decrease of -3.9% compared with 2021. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -9.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tufted carpet imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia dominates imports structure, recording X square meters, which was approx. 76% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X square meters), constituting a 9.7% share of total imports. Belarus (X square meters), Kyrgyzstan (X square meters), Armenia (X square meters), Uzbekistan (X square meters) and Moldova (X square meters) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+11.5%), Belarus (+11.3%), Kyrgyzstan (+10.2%), Kazakhstan (+6.6%), Armenia (+4.2%) and Moldova (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan increased by +2.7, +2.2, +1.7 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings in the CIS, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 6% share.

In Russia, tufted carpet imports plunged by an average annual rate of -2.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+6.9% per year) and Belarus (+10.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per square meter, shrinking by -2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per square meter), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
