Exports in CIS

In 2022, sulphur exports in the CIS surged to X tons, rising by X% compared with 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sulphur exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the key exporter of sulphur in the CIS, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), mixing up a X% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Russia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (X p.p.) and Uzbekistan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) emerged as the largest sulphur supplier in the CIS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

In Kazakhstan, sulphur exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (X% per year) and Uzbekistan (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, approx. X tons of sulphur were imported in the CIS; dropping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sulphur imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the largest importer of sulphur, achieving X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing an X% share of total imports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sulphur imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. Belarus (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) and Russia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022.

Among the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review.

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (X%).
