In 2021, overseas shipments of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates increased by 20% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 356%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together making up 97% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +283.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), together accounting for 98% of total exports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +453.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 64% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 70%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+44.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports of Sulphides, Polysulphides, Dithionites And Sulphoxylates

Imports in CIS

In 2021, the amount of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imported in the CIS dropped to X tons, falling by -14.7% against 2020 figures. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -16.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports stood at $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 18%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 48% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Armenia (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons), together mixing up a 43% share of total imports. The following importers - Azerbaijan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - together made up 8% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +11.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates importing markets in the CIS were Russia ($X), Armenia ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), with a combined 90% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 8.7%.

Among the main importing countries, Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +7.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
