Solid Biofuel Exports

Exports in CIS

After ten years of growth, shipments abroad of solid biofuels decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, solid biofuel exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia was the largest exporter of solid biofuels in the CIS, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), creating a X% share of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Belarus (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, solid biofuel imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Belarus (X tons) represented the major importer of solid biofuels, committing X% of total imports. Moldova (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (X%) and Russia (X%). Uzbekistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Belarus increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (X%), Moldova (X%), Kyrgyzstan (X%), Armenia (X%) and Russia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Belarus, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan increased by X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively.
