Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste exports, with a CAGR of +24.6% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of Uzbekistan (+6.4 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) also remains the largest silk yarn supplier in the CIS.

Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, silk yarn imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 49% of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) held a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (19%). The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X kg), Kazakhstan (X kg) and Azerbaijan (X kg) - each finished at a 5.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +53.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste in the CIS, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 1.6% share.
In Russia, silk yarn imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+6.3% per year) and Tajikistan (+25.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 3.1%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
