For the twelfth consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in overseas shipments of sacks and bags, which increased by X% to X tons in 2023. Over the period under review, exports saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2023 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, sack and bag exports expanded to $X in 2023. Overall, exports posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2023 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2023, Russia (X tons) was the major exporter of sacks and bags, comprising X% of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Azerbaijan (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons). All these countries together held near X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (X%), Moldova (X%), Kazakhstan (X%), Uzbekistan (X%) and Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Azerbaijan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Russia (X p.p.), Uzbekistan (X p.p.), Kazakhstan (X p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Azerbaijan (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest sack and bag supplier in the CIS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (X% per year) and Azerbaijan (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2023, approx. X tons of sacks and bags were imported in the CIS; which is down by X% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, sack and bag imports reduced to $X in 2023. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2023, Russia (X tons) was the main importer of sacks and bags, comprising X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), constituting a X% share of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
