Exports by Country

Armenia was the main exporter of roasted decaffeinated coffee in the CIS, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 86% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), generating a 13% share of total exports.

Armenia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the roasted decaffeinated coffee exports, with a CAGR of +54.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+24.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Armenia (+44 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -44.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Armenia ($X) emerged as the largest roasted decaffeinated coffee supplier in the CIS, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

In Armenia, roasted decaffeinated coffee exports expanded at an average annual rate of +50.7% over the period from 2012-2022.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Russia amounted to $X per ton.

In 2022, the amount of roasted decaffeinated coffee imported in the CIS dropped modestly to X tons, waning by -2% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, roasted decaffeinated coffee imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Russia was the key importer of roasted decaffeinated coffee in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 68% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Armenia (X tons), creating a 14% share of total imports. Belarus (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to roasted decaffeinated coffee imports into Russia stood at +3.9%. At the same time, Armenia (+64.9%), Tajikistan (+42.7%), Moldova (+13.3%), Belarus (+10.5%), Kazakhstan (+9.2%) and Azerbaijan (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +64.9% from 2012-2022. Armenia (+14 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -20.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported roasted decaffeinated coffee in the CIS, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Armenia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 4% share.

In Russia, roasted decaffeinated coffee imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Armenia (+52.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (+6.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+3.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
