Exports in CIS

In 2022, approx. X tons of fiber crops (primary) were exported in the CIS; falling by X% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, primary fiber crops exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw strong growth. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of fiber crops (primary) decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports saw a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, primary fiber crops imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importer of fiber crops (primary) in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) took an X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (X%) and Azerbaijan (X%).
