In 2022, the amount of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines exported in the CIS surged to X tons, jumping by 18% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polyethylene binder exports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines. At the same time, Belarus (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +11.6% from 2012-2022. Russia (-1.6 p.p.) significantly weakened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest polyethylene binder supplier in the CIS, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 3.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia was relatively modest.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -10.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+0.1%).
Polyethylene Binder Imports
Imports in CIS
In 2022, overseas purchases of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines decreased by less than 0.1% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -33.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, polyethylene binder imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -2.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons), distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) were the largest importers of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines, together generating 91% of total imports. The following importers - Moldova (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - together made up 7.3% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +58.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest polyethylene binder importing markets in the CIS were Kazakhstan ($X), Russia ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X), together accounting for 77% of total imports. Belarus, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Armenia and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +122.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 28%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+130.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
