Exports in CIS
In 2021, shipments abroad of polishes and creams for wooden furniture and floors decreased by -3.1% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 170%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wooden furniture treatments exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +20.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 168% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+20.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +20.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Armenia (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+14 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Armenia (-9.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest wooden furniture treatments supplier in the CIS, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 5.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +15.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+10.7% per year) and Armenia (-8.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, imports of polishes and creams for wooden furniture and floors in the CIS amounted to X tons, increasing by 6.9% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wooden furniture treatments imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Russia was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which resulted at 60% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Azerbaijan (X tons), Armenia (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took near 36% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wooden furniture treatments imports into Russia stood at -6.1%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+10.0%), Belarus (+6.0%) and Moldova (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +10.0% from 2012-2021. Armenia and Azerbaijan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+2.9 p.p.), Moldova (+2.9 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+2.5 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+2.2 p.p.) and Armenia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -13.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polishes and creams for wooden furniture and floors in the CIS, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.7% share.
In Russia, wooden furniture treatments imports shrank by an average annual rate of -4.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-7.6% per year) and Belarus (+7.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
