The total consumption indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. In value terms, playing cards exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 231%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Belarus dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 84% of total exports in 2022. Armenia (X tons) held a 9.7% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (5.8%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to playing cards exports from Belarus stood at +55.0%. At the same time, Armenia (+98.0%) and Russia (+16.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +98.0% from 2012-2022. Belarus (+41 p.p.) and Armenia (+9.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -46.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest playing cards supplier in the CIS, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

In Belarus, playing cards exports expanded at an average annual rate of +49.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+8.9% per year) and Armenia (+78.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 21% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-3.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

For the third year in a row, the CIS recorded growth in overseas purchases of playing cards, which increased by 8.7% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +93.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, playing cards imports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 62% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Kazakhstan (11%). Azerbaijan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+154.2%), Belarus (+29.7%) and Kyrgyzstan (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +154.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Armenia (-4.2%) and Kazakhstan (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan increased by +15, +8.5, +4.1 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported playing cards in the CIS, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 9.2% share.

In Russia, playing cards imports increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+4.8% per year) and Belarus (+16.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -7.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 45% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
