In 2021, shipments abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles increased by 19% to X square meters, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +49.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, photographic paper exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 56%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Belarus (X square meters) and Russia (X square meters), together amounting to 99.9% of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +6.9%).
In value terms, Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021.
Belarus, with a CAGR of -0.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per square meter, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per square meter), while Belarus totaled $X per square meter.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-5.5%).

In 2021, approx. X square meters of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles were imported in the CIS; picking up by 19% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. Imports by Country
Russia represented the largest importer of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles in the CIS, with the volume of imports finishing at X square meters, which was near 73% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X square meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X square meters). All these countries together held near 18% share of total imports. The following importers - Uzbekistan (X square meters) and Armenia (X square meters) - together made up 4.7% of total imports.
Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -6.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +3.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Armenia (-2.5%), Kazakhstan (-5.9%) and Uzbekistan (-15.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+4.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Uzbekistan (-3.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported photographic paper, paperboard and textiles in the CIS, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled -11.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-3.1% per year) and Uzbekistan (-15.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per square meter, reducing by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 11%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per square meter), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
