In 2022, shipments abroad of organo-sulphur compounds increased by 13% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +13.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 24%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, organo-sulphur compound exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the main exporter of organo-sulphur compounds, mixing up 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together comprising a 20% share of total exports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of organo-sulphur compounds. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+1,393.8%) and Belarus (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +1,393.8% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (+10 p.p.) and Belarus (+4.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-15.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest organo-sulphur compound supplier in the CIS, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to -3.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+487.9% per year) and Belarus (+2.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-2.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Organo-Sulphur Compound Imports
Imports in CIS
In 2022, approx. X tons of organo-sulphur compounds were imported in the CIS; growing by 11% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, organo-sulphur compound imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 63%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the main importer of organo-sulphur compounds in the CIS, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 67% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (6.9%) and Belarus (6.7%). The following importers - Azerbaijan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - each resulted at a 6.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to organo-sulphur compound imports into Russia stood at +9.2%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+16.1%), Azerbaijan (+9.8%), Kyrgyzstan (+9.5%), Armenia (+5.0%) and Kazakhstan (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +16.1% from 2012-2022. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Uzbekistan (+12 p.p.) and Russia (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-6.9 p.p.) and Belarus (-7.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported organo-sulphur compounds in the CIS, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +5.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+19.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (+5.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
