In 2022, the CIS canned mushroom market increased by 27% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, canned mushroom production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by +0.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 63%. Canned Mushroom Exports

Exports in CIS

In 2022, shipments abroad of canned mushrooms increased by 4.6% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 68%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, canned mushroom exports declined modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belarus represented the major exporter of canned mushrooms in the CIS, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 77% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), creating a 20% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to canned mushroom exports from Belarus stood at +9.6%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+35.8%) and Russia (+14.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +35.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Kazakhstan increased by +5.6 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest canned mushroom supplier in the CIS, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

In Belarus, canned mushroom exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+9.7% per year) and Kazakhstan (+27.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 41% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, purchases abroad of canned mushrooms was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight downturn. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, canned mushroom imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight descent. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the main importer of canned mushrooms, generating 70% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together took near 27% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -3.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+18.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +18.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Belarus increased by +18 percentage points.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported canned mushrooms in the CIS, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 29% share of total imports.

In Russia, canned mushroom imports shrank by an average annual rate of -4.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+14.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (-3.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 3.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
