Molluscs Exports

Exports in CIS

In 2023, the amount of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) exported in the CIS rose markedly to X tons, with an increase of X% against the year before. In general, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, molluscs exports soared to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus), namely Russia, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. Russia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest molluscs supplier in the CIS.

In general, imports showed a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, molluscs imports expanded slightly to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to molluscs imports into Russia stood at X%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Belarus (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.
