The CIS metal chain market contracted slightly to $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Metal Chain Production in CIS

In value terms, metal chain production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Metal Chain Exports

Exports in CIS

In 2022, overseas shipments of iron or steel chain increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal chain exports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal chain exports from Russia stood at X%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (X%) and Azerbaijan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan increased by X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest metal chain supplier in the CIS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (X% per year) and Belarus (X% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of iron or steel chain was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal chain imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the major importer of iron or steel chain, generating X% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Tajikistan (X%), Uzbekistan (X%) and Azerbaijan (X%). Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for X% of total imports. Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by X%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
