In 2021, the CIS market for hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes decreased by -25.5% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes production rose modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 43%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in CIS

In 2021, shipments abroad of hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes decreased by -26.4% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 330%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 323% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Kyrgyzstan (X tons) was the major exporter of hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes, comprising 57% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X kg) and Belarus (X kg), together committing a 43% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +69.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) remains the largest hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes supplier in the CIS, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 5.1% share of total exports.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 190%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports in CIS

In 2021, purchases abroad of hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes decreased by -54.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports faced a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 496%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 546%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 92% of total imports in 2021. Belarus (X kg), Uzbekistan (X kg) and Moldova (X kg) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes imports into Russia stood at -11.5%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+38.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +38.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Moldova (-2.5%) and Belarus (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes in the CIS, comprising 98% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 0.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 0.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +30.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (-11.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (+27.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per kg in 2021, with an increase of 85% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 902% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per kg), while Moldova ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
