In value terms, marble granules and powder production soared to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

After five years of growth, shipments abroad of granules, chippings and powder of marble decreased by -11% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, marble granules and powder exports fell slightly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -2.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 53%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), generating a 5.9% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to marble granules and powder exports from Russia stood at +16.1%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+31.4%) and Uzbekistan (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +31.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Uzbekistan (+5.9 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-8.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest marble granules and powder supplier in the CIS, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports.

In Russia, marble granules and powder exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (-0.9% per year) and Kazakhstan (+13.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (-2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports of Granules, Chippings And Powder Of Marble

Imports in CIS

In 2021, overseas purchases of granules, chippings and powder of marble decreased by -2.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, marble granules and powder imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) represented the key importers of granules, chippings and powder of marble in 2021, amounting to approx. 41% and 31% of total imports, respectively. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Moldova (5.6%). Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 86% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Moldova and Kyrgyzstan, which together accounted for a further 10%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Moldova, with a CAGR of +11.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 8.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
