In 2021, exports of granite building stone in the CIS surged to X tons, picking up by 51% against the year before. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, granite building stone exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Uzbekistan (X tons) was the main exporter of granite building stone, making up 43% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (17%), Kyrgyzstan (9%) and Belarus (7.3%). Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the granite building stone exports, with a CAGR of +136.0% from 2012 to 2021. In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) emerged as the largest granite building stone supplier in the CIS, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 10% share.

In Uzbekistan, granite building stone exports expanded at an average annual rate of +149.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (-0.1% per year) and Russia (-2.1% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 144%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 77% of total imports. Uzbekistan, Moldova, Armenia and Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +11.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
