Fresh Whole Chicken Market Size in CIS

In 2019, the CIS fresh whole chicken market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when the production volume increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2013 to 2019, production growth failed to regain the momentum.

Russia (X tonnes) remains the largest fresh whole chicken producing country in the CIS, comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, fresh whole chicken production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Belarus (X tonnes), sevenfold. Kazakhstan (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

In Russia, fresh whole chicken production remained relatively stable over the period from 2007-2019. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+X% per year) and Kazakhstan (+X% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. The volume of export peaked at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken exports contracted to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

Belarus dominates fresh whole chicken exports structure, reaching X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2019. Kazakhstan (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Belarus increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2019. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2019. Kazakhstan (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -X% from 2007 to 2019, respectively.

In 2019, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of fresh or chilled whole chickens, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2018, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken imports contracted to $X in 2019. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The purchases of the one major importers of fresh or chilled whole chickens, namely Russia, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
