The CIS files and rasps market contracted to $X in 2022, which is down by -7.3% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of files, rasps and similar tools decreased by -0.7% to X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, leveling off in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Belarus (X units) and Russia (X units) prevails in exports structure, together mixing up 89% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units), making up a 10% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +169.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest files and rasps supplier in the CIS, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

In Russia, files and rasps exports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+32.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+52.6% per year).

Imports in CIS

In 2022, approx. X units of files, rasps and similar tools were imported in the CIS; with a decrease of -3.4% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

At the same time, Kazakhstan (+8.9%), Belarus (+8.0%) and Uzbekistan (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +8.9% from 2012-2022.
