Composition Leather Exports

Exports in CIS

In 2021, approx. X square meters of composition leather were exported in the CIS; rising by 41% on 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 59%. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, composition leather exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 95%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per square meter), while Belarus totaled $X per square meter.

Imports in CIS

Composition leather imports declined to X square meters in 2021, with a decrease of -9.7% against the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, composition leather imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 23%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia was the main importer of composition leather in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X square meters, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X square meters), generating a 19% share of total imports. The following importers - Uzbekistan (X square meters), Kazakhstan (X square meters) and Azerbaijan (X square meters) - each amounted to a 4.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to composition leather imports into Russia stood at +2.2%. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+45.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +45.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-5.8%), Uzbekistan (-15.3%) and Kazakhstan (-15.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
