Cement Clinker Market Size in CIS

In 2020, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the CIS cement clinker market, when its value increased by X% to $X. In 2020, overseas shipments of cement clinker decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cement clinker exports dropped significantly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Azerbaijan prevails in cement clinker exports structure, accounting for X tonnes, which was near X% of total exports in 2020. Kazakhstan (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Azerbaijan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cement clinker exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2020. Kazakhstan (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Azerbaijan (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2007-2020, the share of Kazakhstan (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X) remains the largest cement clinker supplier in the CIS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Kazakhstan ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Imports by Country

Armenia was the main importing country with an import of around X tonnes, which amounted to X% of total imports. Belarus (X tonnes) occupied a X% share (based on tonnes) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (X%) and Kazakhstan (X%). Russia (X tonnes) occupied a relatively small share of total imports.

Armenia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cement clinker imports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2020. Uzbekistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Kazakhstan (-X%), Belarus (-X%) and Russia (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2020, the share of Armenia, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan increased by +X%, +X%, +X% and +X% percentage points, while Russia (-X p.p.) saw their share reduced.
