In 2022, the amount of caustic soda exported in the CIS soared to X tons, growing by X% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports saw a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, caustic soda exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of caustic soda, namely Russia, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the caustic soda exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest caustic soda supplier in the CIS.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild downturn. As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Russia.

In 2022, overseas purchases of caustic soda were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, caustic soda imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Belarus was the major importer of caustic soda in the CIS, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Kazakhstan (X%), Russia (X%) and Azerbaijan (X%). The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) - each finished at a X% share of total imports.

Imports into Belarus increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tajikistan (X%), Uzbekistan (X%) and Kyrgyzstan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (X%), Azerbaijan (X%) and Russia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (X p.p.), Uzbekistan (X p.p.) and Tajikistan (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest caustic soda importing markets in the CIS were Belarus ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. Russia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Tajikistan, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by X% against the previous year. Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, caustic soda import price increased by X% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
