The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 24%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, bleached sulphate pulp exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 30%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Russia was the largest exporter of bleached sulphate pulp in the CIS, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), creating a 12% share of total exports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of bleached sulphate pulp. At the same time, Belarus (+200.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +200.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus increased by +12 percentage points.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest bleached sulphate pulp supplier in the CIS, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

Bleached sulphate pulp imports soared to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 18% against the year before. Overall, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, bleached sulphate pulp imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 83% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 6.9% share, followed by Belarus (6.5%). Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to bleached sulphate pulp imports into Russia stood at +10.0%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+17.6%) and Kazakhstan (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +17.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-1.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+6.9 p.p.) and Russia (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -10.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bleached sulphate pulp in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 6.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 6.1% share.

In Russia, bleached sulphate pulp imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+19.9% per year) and Belarus (-0.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Uzbekistan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
