The volume of export peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, travelling wool rug exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Moldova (X units), together achieving a 25% share of total exports. Belarus (X units) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Moldova (+43.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +43.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-12.3%) and Belarus (-27.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Moldova increased by +58 and +12 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest travelling wool rug supplier in the CIS, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 7% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 3.9% share.
In Russia, travelling wool rug exports expanded at an average annual rate of +18.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (-4.8% per year) and Moldova (+24.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -3.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 54%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, approx. X units of blankets and travelling rugs of wool were imported in the CIS; waning by -13.6% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 34%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, travelling wool rug imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Russia was the major importing country with an import of about X units, which reached 48% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Belarus (10%), Azerbaijan (9.3%) and Moldova (7.9%). Armenia (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to travelling wool rug imports into Russia stood at -11.4%. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+28.2%), Moldova (+14.9%) and Kazakhstan (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +28.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Armenia (-1.1%), Belarus (-3.0%) and Kyrgyzstan (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Belarus increased by +12, +8.9, +7 and +3.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported blankets and travelling rugs of wool in the CIS, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 5.1% share.
In Russia, travelling wool rug imports decreased by an average annual rate of -9.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+3.8% per year) and Moldova (+14.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
