Bauxite Market Size in CIS

The CIS bauxite market expanded to $X in 2022, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bauxite production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by X%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Bauxite Exports

Exports in CIS

In 2022, overseas shipments of bauxite increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bauxite exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the two major exporters of bauxite, namely Azerbaijan and Russia, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of X%).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest bauxite supplier in the CIS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Azerbaijan ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

In Russia, bauxite exports declined by an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (X%).

Imports in CIS

In 2022, the amount of bauxite imported in the CIS dropped rapidly to X tons, waning by X% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports saw a sharp reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bauxite imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for X% of total imports. Moldova (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Tajikistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Moldova (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (X p.p.), Moldova (X p.p.), Belarus (X p.p.) and Tajikistan (X p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bauxite in the CIS, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with a X% share.

In Russia, bauxite imports plunged by an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (X% per year) and Moldova (X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
