After six years of growth, the Chinese spun yarn market decreased by -X% to $X in 2019. Overall, consumption, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Spun yarn consumption peaked at $X in 2018, and then declined in the following year.

Spun Yarn Production in China

In value terms, spun yarn production contracted to $X in 2019 estimated in export prices. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a perceptible increase from 2007 to 2019: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2019, overseas shipments of yarn spun from silk waste were finally on the rise to reach X tons after six years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, spun yarn exports expanded markedly to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of spun yarn exports from China, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by India, Indonesia, Iraq, Nepal, Bangladesh, Germany and Hong Kong SAR, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bangladesh, while exports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Japan ($X) and India ($X) constituted the largest markets for spun yarn exported from China worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. In 2019, the amount of yarn spun from silk waste imported into China skyrocketed to X tons, growing by X% compared with 2018. In general, imports, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, spun yarn imports soared to $X in 2019. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Japan (X tons), Italy (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of spun yarn imports to China, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, which accounted for a further X 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (+X% per year), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest spun yarn suppliers to China were Italy ($X), Japan ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for X% of total imports.
