In general, imports recorded a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2020, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, silk-worm cocoons imports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tonnes) constituted the largest silk-worm cocoons supplier to China, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, silk-worm cocoons imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tonnes), twofold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey amounted to -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-X% per year) and Azerbaijan (X% per year).

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($X per tonne), while the price for Turkey ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
