Exports from China
In 2020, shipments abroad of jute and jute-like fibers decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the seventh consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports faced a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. The exports peaked at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, jute and jute-like fibers exports reduced markedly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports posted slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Nigeria (X tonnes) was the main destination for jute and jute-like fibers exports from China, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, jute and jute-like fibers exports to Nigeria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tonnes), threefold. The United Arab Emirates (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Nigeria totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (X% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+X% per year).
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for jute and jute-like fibers exports from China, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Japan ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Nigeria totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (-X% per year) and Vietnam (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average jute and jute-like fibers export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2018 to 2020, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Jute And Jute-Like Fibers
Imports into China
In 2020, the amount of jute and jute-like fibers imported into China fell to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% compared with the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, jute and jute-like fibers imports stood at $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2011 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2020, Bangladesh (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of jute and jute-like fibers to China, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, jute and jute-like fibers imports from Bangladesh exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Tanzania (X tonnes), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Kenya (X tonnes), with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bangladesh stood at -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (+X% per year) and Kenya (-X% per year).
In value terms, the largest jute and jute-like fibers suppliers to China were Bangladesh ($X), Tanzania ($X) and Kenya ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. Myanmar, the Philippines and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main suppliers, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average jute and jute-like fibers import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per tonne), while the price for Indonesia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
