Diode Market Size in China

In 2021, the Chinese diode market decreased by -34% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, consumption showed a pronounced downturn. Diode consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Diode Production in China

In value terms, diode production dropped modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +23.3% against 2013 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 29%. Diode production peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In 2021, approx. X units of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes were exported from China; jumping by 28% compared with 2020. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +109.0% against 2019 indices. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +63.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 31%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

India (X units), South Korea (X units) and Singapore (X units) were the main destinations of diode exports from China, together accounting for 15% of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, the United States, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Turkey, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates and France, which together accounted for a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +32.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for diode exported from China were Singapore ($X), Germany ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 22% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the United States, Japan, Vietnam, India, France, Thailand, Mexico, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 16%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +36.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average diode export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China

In 2021, supplies from abroad of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes increased by 12% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 61%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, diode imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Japan (X units), South Korea (X units) and the Philippines (X units) were the main suppliers of diode imports to China, with a combined 36% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +104.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Japan ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the largest diode suppliers to China, with a combined 19% share of total imports. South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.1%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +103.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average diode import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 143%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the price for Australia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
