Exports from China
In 2021, overseas shipments of crude maize (corn) oil decreased by -16.2% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 109% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crude maize oil exports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 91%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for crude maize oil exports from China, accounting for a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, crude maize oil exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Saudi Arabia totaled -20.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-2.7% per year) and Turkey (-20.4% per year).
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for crude maize oil exports from China, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Saudi Arabia totaled -25.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-19.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-32.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average crude maize oil export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a deep slump. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (-5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into China
Crude maize oil imports into China contracted notably to X tons in 2021, falling by -98.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 700% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crude maize oil imports plummeted to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 380% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Hong Kong SAR (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of crude maize oil imports to China, together comprising 83% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +64.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crude maize oil to China, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Hong Kong SAR amounted to +55.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+0.1% per year) and Turkey (-9.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average crude maize oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 97%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
